You need some good carp fishing bait if you want to land yourself a big one. Most people love the challenge of reeling in a big carp. They’re known as good fighters and make for a really fun time. Since they’re bottom feeders most people won’t eat them. But if you cut the mud-line out, which is an orange streak down both sides of the meat, you can eat them as safely as you can eat catfish.

When it comes to good baits to use to land the big ones, there are three that have produced consistent results all my life. I grew up in a small town, and fishing was part of our lifestyle. It doesn’t take long to figure out the best bait for each kind of fish you go after. There are lots of baits you can use, but when some work better than others, it’s wise to use the better ones.

One of the best ‘big carp’ baits are what we call ‘dough balls’. You make these from the cereal ‘Shredded Wheat’. What you do is take a shredded wheat biscuit and douse it underwater, then you begin to mold it into a round ball. You keep smashing it in your hand and it becomes a little sticky and stays in the shape you form it. You may have to dunk it twice to get it wet enough to be pliable. Then you bury your hook into the center of the dough ball. Carp really love this bait, and you’ll have no trouble getting plenty of hits with these balls of shredded wheat.

There are some carp fishing bait secrets, at least we always considered them secrets, that can really up your game. Everybody knows that worms are good fish bait, but me and my friends also know that not all worms work the same way for all fish. You have red-worms, wigglers, stripers, and night crawlers, all of which are good bait. But for reeling in the big carp, nothing grabs them like green-worms. These are dug on the riverbank in the dark mud that looks like big cracked slabs. Carp just can’t resist them.

For many years carp fishing was a favorite activity around my hometown. It’s really a thrill to hook one of these big fighters and land him on the bank. The average size we usually catch are from six up to twenty pounds, but there have been some thirty pounders caught now and then. They grow to be very big and give you a fight that you won’t soon forget. I have a lot of good memories from carp fishing that I wouldn’t trade for anything.

The third bait is nothing more than canned corn from the supermarket. You just load a kernel at a time on the hook until it’s covered. It can be a challenge to get one to stay on and cover the end of your hook, but it CAN be done. I can’t tell you how many carp have been caught on corn. I can personally vouch for all three of these carp baits because I’ve used them since I was a small boy and had great success with them.

These are just some carp fishing bait secrets that I wanted to share so you can go out and have some of the fun that I’ve had over the years. It’s just a really exciting way to spend a day and enjoy the sport of fishing, whether by yourself or with friends. We all hear about how nice it is just to be there, mostly from people who didn’t catch anything. Trust me, it’s much better when you haul a few in and get the thrill of landing a big one.
